It’s important not to overstate the significance of what we’re going through today. If you look historically, major changes that were thought to be likely to happen never actually materialised. Consider 15 years ago, when major growth in defined contribution schemes and retail funds led to the claim that institutional platforms would shrink – or disappear even – as the industry became exclusively retail-focused. The reality is that there are still huge opportunities available in the institutional sector and new pockets of investment managers are emerging to take advantage of these.
But there have been significant structural shifts in recent years. Globalisation has been a defining trend in our lives and will continue to be a key driver....
