A bright future for Mexico's asset management industry

A strong economy and a rapidly expanding middle class make Mexico a good news story for asset managers. But only if a conservative investment culture can be overcome. Annabelle Palmer reports

These are dark days for the US economy, but compared to its northern neighbour, Mexico’s finances are in rude health. The International Monetary Fund predicts GDP growth of 4% in 2012, with the public deficit expected to fall below 2.5% that year. And unlike other emerging markets – and indeed some mature economies – its government is not facing any refinancing issues, with the average maturity of government debt a healthy 8.4 years.
