Qatar MSCI upgrade "unlikely to happen"

It is unlikely that Qatar will be upgraded to an emerging market by MSCI this week, according to Rami Sidani, fund manager of Schroders’ frontier markets equity fund.
MSCI, a provider of widely tracked global equity benchmarks, is to announce the results of a market classification review for the MSCI Qatar and MSCI UAE indices on December 14 2011.
However, Sidani says that it some of the conditions that were imposed on Qatar by MSCI have not been met, such as increasing the foreign ownership limit up from its 25% limit.
