The Nordic region’s large occupational pension funds and growing appetite for equities means that the area is increasingly on the radar of international custodians looking to do business there.
Oil and energy companies are a draw to international investors while private pension plans like Pensam in Denmark, Alecta in Sweden and Pension Fennia in Finland are just a few examples of the type of investment potential that is catching the eye of foreign based banks. Many people also see the market as a stepping stone into some of the Eastern European markets.
Transparent legislation and geographical closeness to many banks in Europe, and particularly the UK are other plus points while the fact that the market isn’t too large may actually count in its favour rather than against it, observers insist, as it is easier to get a good overview of business there.
