Ashley Wilson is the latest big hire by one of the rising stars of the prime brokerage world - Barclays Capital. He tells Craig MacDonald about his plans to build the
European business.
GI: Why did you join Barclays Capital?
Ashley Wilson Barclays Capital: Barclays is one of only a few banks who have come out of the credit crisis stronger. I would say it is in a better position now then it was before the crisis. What also attracted me was during the interview process, the senior managers I met, really impressed me. I bought into their story about growing this business, which was demonstrated by the Lehman acquisition. I found myself sharing a similar vision of growing the prime brokerage.
GI: Did you reach a plateau in your career at Merrill Lynch?
AW: I spent three years at Merrill Lynch and I loved the people I worked with. My reason for leaving was not prompted by anything negative. I recognised a unique opportunity here and to be honest, if I had of blinked, it would have been gone.
