in the industry. He speaks to Craig MacDonald about jumping to a third-party lender and his affection for building and creating something new.
Isf: After 19 years with JPMorgan, why did you leave to join Metropolitan West Securities?
GP: I wanted to be in an entrepreneurial environment. JPMorgan is obviously a big player in this business. I was there for a long time and after a while you lose that entrepreneurial spirit. I wanted something to grow and get some of the excitement back. This opportunity gives me a chance to use my creative skills and to build something special – at heart I am a builder.
Isf: Did you leave JPMorgan because you did not get Avi Stein's job?
GP: No, I did not. I think they (JPMorgan) made a good management selection. Sandie O'Connor is a good fit for the business. When I took a step back and looked at what I wanted to do, what gets me motivated to come to work, this job seemed the perfect fit.
