?Walter Kraushaar did something in his life, we all wish we could do – quit his job and go snowboarding. Craig MacDonald asks why he left Dresdner, what brought him back to the industry and debates whether snowboarding is really better than skiing?

Isf: Walter, the last few years of your career have been interesting ones, filled with quitting a big bank, a sabbatical to snowboard, buying a company and returning to the market to help start a business.  Let's start with you quitting Dresdner. Why did you leave?
WK: There were several reasons. Firstly, I was not happy with all the managerial changes that were happening at the time. We spent a lot of time bringing the equities and the fixed income business together combining infrastructure and mindsets but we had so many changes in the management lines above us.  Clients were unsure as to who was still there. I would spend 10 to 15% of my time developing the business and the rest in political meetings.
