Marek Sanders (Chair) Why has Brazil become such a leading emerging market?
Gregory Wagner, ABN Amro Brazil is more mature compared to the other Latin American countries. It has a very big stock exchange and a derivatives market. It has over 425 listed companies, which is probably close to as many as all the other Latin American listed companies combined. Brazil has about $900 billion in equity capitalization, which is significantly higher than any of the other Latin American (LatAm) countries.
Nick Rudenstine, JPMorgan Securities lending has seen increased activity in Brazil off the back of a strong economy and growth in the capital markets. These factors plus others such as more equity issuance in Brazil, the securities lending infrastructure in place at the Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC), and recent rule changes such as the ability to recall loans, have been key elements in creating a healthy environment...
