The acquisition of ABN Amro by the European consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has been a long process but things are now taking shape and the business model is becoming clear.
The pairing of RBS and ABN Amro does seem to make sense with a lot of synergies. When RBS became the frontrunner for the ABN Amro business over Barclays it seemed a better fit.
RBS has a good reputation in the credit and rates world, particularly strong in fixed income and credit products with an obvious presence in the United Kingdom and in the US.
